About RMUK

Roundwood Merchants UK (RMUK) offer clients a personal, open book service ensuring all parties have full transparency throughout. We fill the gap of larger companies who can't offer you the, what we call "pick up the phone anytime" service. 

 

RMUK was founded by Douglas (Dougie) Elgar, an experienced Harvesting Manager with extensive knowledge of the UK Timber Markets. With 10 years in the industry, both in practical and management roles, and over 550,000 tonnes of logs bought and sold in that time, he decided to take the step in setting up his own forestry company. Dougie studied Forestry at the National School of Forestry, within the University of Cumbria, and left with a FdSc before going straight into employment.

For 6 of the 10 years Dougie managed the harvesting and marketing department of a well known forestry company based out of central Scotland. During his time there he built up a large harvesting program, buying timber across Scotland and England, selling to markets up and down the UK. 

After leaving the company in 2025 he travelled to New Zealand to further his knowledge of forestry and farming operations. He returned back to the UK with a renewed passion of all things forestry and timber related.
